Meeting Notes

Notes from CRFG meeting 12-12-15

Ed Laivo spoke on a variety of interesting topics! Here is an edited copy of his list of Relative Water Needs of various fruiting plants. It is good to think of what we want to grow and how to group our plantings for irrigation purposes! Group like need plants whenever possible!

Higher Water Needs: These plants tend to have surface roots, and so are not suited to deep watering.

  • Avocado
  • Blueberries
  • Cane berries

Medium Water Needs: Should not be allowed to dry out, but can take longer periods between watering.

  • Apples
  • Pears
  • Cherries
  • Peaches/Nectarines

Medium to Low Water Needs: These can take some drying out between watering, especially if well mulched.

  • Almonds
  • Apricot
  • Citrus
  • Persimmon
  • Pineapple Guava
  • Plum
  • Pistachio

Low Water Needs: These can withstand long periods between watering.

  • Figs
  • Grapes
  • Pomegranates
  • Olives
